Default Hi-berno Viking

Hi guys,

I'm Leighton and i'm a sign writer by trade but i'm looking to pick up engraving as a hobby to engrave axes, spears, swords and helmets.

I have never tried before but i'm confident i can learn it however i'm not sure where is best to start, i'm sure my father has an old reciprocal engraver buried in his tool shed somewhere and the shop near me sells a very cheap polish/engraver set that is a rotational, which should i begin with? also if im going to buy something to start with, should i get electric or Air compressed system?

Sorry, i'm sure you've been asked many many times, but any advice/pointers is welcomed, oh and all your work in the gallery guys is mind-blowing!

Thanks for your reply and links

I'm not even sure where to start

Just want to customise peoples gear and weaponry with 8th century viking runes and period accurate designs.

Celtic knots, etc...

Hi,

For ancient weaponry ,Celtic knots etc you might need to go hand engraving mainly, then adding other techniques with hand engraving will help accomplish the different work you wish to do,as I assume now.
But the choice will be yours however.
