Default Hello from California

I'm new to the forum and want to say Hi to everyone. I've registerd as Capt. Lewis (aka Steve Anderson). I'm a member of the Single Action Shooting Society, thus the alias. I've always wanted to engrave firearms since I was a kid and now with the purchase of Steve Lindsay's wonderful invention I'm actually learning to do it. I make my living as an aviation artist and am also an Artist Fellow in the American Society of Aviation Artists. I am an occasional design consultant for themed environment projects too.

I purchased the Artisan and sharpening fixtures in August of 2008 and my wife has been having a hard time keeping the pots and pans out my reach. I've completed several projects so far, not pots and pans, and as soon as I figure out the mechanics of posting pictures I will. I look forward to learning more from the forum and hopfully I can contribute in return.

Cheers,

Capt. Lewis

Capt. Lewis,

Welcome to the engraving forum from another SASS cowboy
Check out my thread in the forum "water cooler" section entitled "R you a cowboy action shooter" at this link: http://www.engravingforum.com/showthread.php?t=1662 I hope you will post about your SASS escapades there and about your shootin' irons.

I looked at your album. Are you the engraver of the 66 shown? It is mighty nice. Judging by the comments I get on both of my 66's you must get the same response as I do: "You engraved that gun"!!!

It's good to have another CAS shooter here in the forum.

Capt.
Welcome to the place of knowledge. Knowledge that I am seeking also.
Carl

P.S.
After looking at your album, there is no problem seeing who needs the knowledge, IT IS ME. Capt, that is great work. Keep on keeping on.
Have a nice day, hope to see more of your work.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and some of the compliments on my work.

Yup, that's my ''66. It was my first project with the Artisan last September. I've always admired the engraved Winchesters of Nimschke and the Ulrichs. I did some practice on a 1/4 inch brass plate with the buffalo and some scroll, and then started with the side plate. I figured if I messed up I could always get a replacement. When I got that done before I knew it I was onto the reciever fully committed. Engraving is so addicting. I wasn't expecting the learning curve to go so fast with the Lindsay engraver. Everytime I fire it up, I think what a great invention. I sure didn't want to show up at the next cowboy match with a rifle that looked like I engraved with an axe.

I started a 2nd Gen SA Colt, manf. in 1956, yesterday and am taking pictures of work in progress. Belongs to a client and fellow CAS in AZ. The gun was carried on the job for 30 years by a BLM agent and was given to my client by the widow.

Cheers,
Capt. Lewis
