Anglerfish Three-Finger Knife
Just finished this one - a small engraved and carved knife in 1080 carbon steel. I managed to harden the blade without hardening the handle, just by quenching the blade in oil and not submerging the handle part until the glow disappeared. The 1080 steel carved and engraved very nicely.
Thanks for looking! |

Re: Anglerfish Three-Finger Knife
Quite Unusual but nicely done with the "heavy" engraving.
You didn't put a price on this thing though. How do you expect to sell them if you don't price them (with / without engraving)? |

Re: Anglerfish Three-Finger Knife
Hi Tom, Nice sculpturing. I'm not good at sculpturing and smoothing out the hard to reach tight spots. :willy_nilly:
Is this the kind of fish that attracts its prey with a light? Steve |

I like it!
....for the simple reason it makes me smile when I look at it. Very clever Tom! Ray |

Re: Anglerfish Three-Finger Knife
Thanks for the kind words, guys!
Steve, yes this is one of those deep water uglies who fish with light lures - or, at least a sort of semi-loose interpretation. Danny, I sell all of my knife work through bladegallery.com, and I price everything after consulting with them. Engraving and carving in metal is sort of new to me so I definitely look to them for guidance. Also, we have a big studio tour coming up in late September so I'm panicking trying to come up with work to show, and holding my wife at bay - trying to keep her from selling it until then. You know how that goes, the reward for a job well done is more jobs to do well... |
