Model 94 "Old Style" Engraving
Hello all,
Thought I would post a few pics. This is a Model 1894 I did for Turnbull Restoration a month or so ago. It had to be done quick, in order to get it ready for a show. My instructions were to engrave the number 9 Winchester pattern, with period style animal scenes. The Gold was not standard on that pattern, but we add accents like this often, on guns we make for speculation. The band on the barrel is placed further forward than I like, but the proof mark was already there. I used my Bronze Omega for the main cuts, my trusty 1st gen. ACG (with some upgrades, thanks Steve!) for the shading. I cut the channel for the barrel inlay on the lathe, and did the initial cuts for the wire inlay with the ACG, then deepened them and undercut with the hammer and chisel. Total time, about 22 hours. I laid out and cut the borders, then took a pull, scanned it, then laid out the main scroll tendrils in Corel Draw. I drew the leaves in by hand as I went. Background is a single bead punch. Thanks! Tom |

Re: Model 94 "Old Style" Engraving
Jim,
you go right ahead. I consider it a compliment! It is not my favorite type of engraving to do, but I am glad for the work, and find a satisfaction in striving to get better at duplicating the old style work. Some of it was very good, in execution. Take care, Tom |

Re: Model 94 "Old Style" Engraving
hard to see on my LCD screen - the outside border fill pattern - is that a wiggle or a roll over cut
looks real nice - great job as always

Re: Model 94 "Old Style" Engraving
Hi Tom, Some of those old style Winchester patterns look like a lot of square inches and borders to cut. Good job! Thanks for posting pics of it.
