Default New Member Hello

Hi my name is Gerald Taylor. I am new to this forrum. But I have been watching it off and on for a while. But have been engraving for a few years. I started out engraving at my wifes jewelry store. Then I crossed over same designs over to concrete except very large using a angle grinder with a diamond blade.. My ornamental drawing was really getting in a rut. Untill I found out about Advanced drawing of scrolls on this site.

Hi Gerald,

This is a great forum for anything to do with engraving.
But you already know that.
Welcome here and I would love to see some of your engravings.

Greetings,

Daniel

Thanks Daniel for the hardy welcome. I have really seen lots of excellent works and recieved tips on design and layout advice already. I am going to get back to engraving on metal soon . Heres a few process shots of my drive . But I have to reduce the file size to up load .Just in case anybody would like to try engraving on concrete I would be glad to send info on process. I believe they would be surprised how simmilar the feel of freehand scoring concrete is to metal engraving. As well as transfer techniques Also how large designs can be drawn quickly .

Thanks Gerald

Hi Steve,
I will start doing some writing and post soon. What I am going to show is really basic drawing skills. I would really like to see other metal engravers do what they do on concrete. Thanks for the invite will post soon.

Welcome to the forum Gerald.
The pictures of your work makes me think of ancient Persian ceramic tile work . It is quite unique compared to the usual subjects I have seen scroll applied to. I'd like to ask how the color is applied....not your secrets, but only if it is applied like a paint, or if it is incorporated as a sort of grout after you are finished carving. It is very attractive and I would like to see more pictures.

Thanks Gail,
I just used basic techinques I learned from engraver Tilden Swenson in 1992 in Little Rock arkansas.
The colorant I use are safe water based acrylics that are very durable. Can be used straight for opague look or diluted up to 10 parts water for a translucent effect . Simple water color techniques can be used easily. Scored lines can be grouted with color added or lines outlined with a sharpie. They can also be left natural so the varying light aids shading. No secrets here all it takes is a strong back ! I would be glad to give the colorants name with the permission of the moderator. Would like to send other photos but ran out of alloted space.
Thanks again for the welcome and being a part of the forrum .

The key on photos here is to have your own hosting - either your own domain / webspace (if you have it) or one of the services (photobucket, etc.)

I have my own domain so I keep all my pictures there. Most ISPs provide quite a bit of space as part of the package.
