Default Graver Stand - easy project for us newbies

I was playing around in the studio over the hoidays, needing a small engraving project but not wanting to forge a new knife, and came up with this fun and easy idea for a graver stand, especially useful since I badly needed one... And it's not just another practice plate!

Just a mild steel plate (cold blued) on top of a heavy wood block. I drilled the holes for the gravers after I cut and carved the designs - seemed easier that way. I just used drywall screws, but if you have a little more ambition, some nice hex head bolts or gun screws could also be cut with flowers or other radial designs.

Of course, you can use any metal you like for the plate, and any shape - round might be nice as well if you have access to a lathe.
